Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re thinking about therapy but aren’t sure whether it’s right for you at the moment, or whether you’re ready, please get in touch. We can have an initial chat where I can answer any questions you may have before you decide. I do not charge for this and there is no obligation to take it any further. However, if you do decide therapy is for you, we will arrange an initial online meeting.

If we both feel we’d be a good fit to work together, we’ll agree on a regular day and time for your sessions and whether you’d like to meet online or face-to-face.
I’ll then send you my therapy working agreement to read through and sign. This sets out the practical arrangements for our work together, including things like sessions, payment and cancellations. If you have any questions about the agreement, we can talk through these together in our first session before you sign it.
Once payment for your first session has been received, your appointment will be booked and I’ll see you then.

That’s okay. Finding a therapist who feels like a good fit can take some time, and not every therapist will suit every person.
The initial meeting gives us both a chance to see how we feel about working together. If you don’t feel I’m the person you’d like to work with, you don’t have to continue. You can simply let me know.
If I feel that I’m not the best person to support you, I’ll talk this through with you and, where possible, help you find someone who may be a better fit.

No, I don’t currently offer counselling sessions by telephone. You can still contact me by phone if that’s the easiest way for you to get in touch. If I can’t answer, please leave me a voicemail and I’ll get back to you by phone.

That’s okay. We might talk about things that are difficult or upsetting, but the initial meeting isn’t about going into everything in depth. It’s an opportunity for us to talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you’re hoping for and anything you feel would be useful for me to know.

Payment is made by bank transfer in advance of your session. I’ll provide the payment details when we arrange your initial meeting. The payment details for ongoing sessions will also be included in my therapy working agreement.
